Title Comparison: Black Swan & The Bongolo Department
Motif: Mystery
I decided to compare my film to another thriller film by the name of "Black Swan" and found very similar features within the two. In The Bongolo Department we decided to have the motif as mystery as it makes the audience want to watch on, I found that the motif for black swan also appeared to be mystery as the audience are unsure what the character is writing through out the opening, nearer the end the character writing seems to get angry and starts scribbling out what they have been writing throughout, the audience will want to know why. This concept is very strong in attracting an audience because it puts many questions on the audiences mind such as "Who is writing?", why are they writing?" and "what meaning does what they are writing have?". The only natural way of someone finding out the answer to these questions would be by watching the film, that is why thrillers commonly have mysterious openings as it sucks the audience into wanting to watch on.
Titles: Plain & Simple
The titles are a plain and simple font in the black swan as well as The Bongolo Department. I believe that this is so the titles do not distract the audience or take them away from the main concept as complicated titles will attract the audience to the titles rather than the concept. On the other hand Plain and simple titles are easy to read and do not take the audience away from the concept.
