On the 6th of January i was given the opportunity to edit footage from my title sequence. In the this lesson i aimed to improve the diegetic and non-diegetic sound/music and add colour grading and tints to the images on screen. As i have mentioned in a recent post, i was going to add tints and i gave an example of the Matrix that already uses this technique. We aim to make this film as tense and as thrilling as possible. one way we did this was by colour grading the images slightly blue. This blueish tint conjures a cold and isolated effect, therefore it will help to build tension in every scene. Not only does colour grading improve the quality of the film, it is also a common feature that most Political thriller movies use. We have tried to stay as close to the common conventions of a political thriller as possible from the start, and this is another example of that.
Music:
Just to be clear, the background music is no where near completed. this lesson was sort of a time to allow me to play around with different sounds and find new and inventive ways to build tension in the scenes. I first started off finding a soundtrack on Youtube with a suitable beat. i was also looking for a section in the music where the beat would get louder and faster. this section would be added to the scene where the man is being strangled in the car. In the end i chose "Liberation". i had heard this in a recent movie and thought it may actually work with our title sequence. The theme tune Liberation has a fast and sharp beat which is really good if you are trying to build tension. Towards the middle the beat becomes faster and louder and new instruments are introduced.
Next lesson i will...
Add titles and transitions
Find appropriate music
integrate the titles with the music
