Task 4
The main 3 purposes of an opening title sequence is to firstly let the audience know who was involved in the making of the film, secondly set the mood of the film and lastly to try and attract the audience, this is done so they want to continue watching the film. These 3 purposes are all done in most opening sequences but are portrayed differently depending on the film.
Some of the main features of a opening are to show the main characters, the setting and background music, this is done to give the audience an idea of what type of film they are watching as the type of music playing can set the mood. Showing us the characters and setting is the way of attracting the audience as through the title sequence they are able to present the type of character we will be watching for the rest of the film. The credits and the institutional info is how they are able to give credit to the actors and companies that played a part in the film, this can also be a way of attracting an audience as if someone is watching the opening and sees the name of an actor they are interested in then they are more likely to stay and watch.
This is a good example of a title sequence that does all of the above very well as it sets a mood with the music played, the dark colours showed and with the actors within the film therefore attracting an audience to want to continue watching.
